Ambassadors

Overview

Team Fundraising with Ambassadors allows individuals to champion your cause. Your most loyal supporters can raise money from their friends and family for your organization by sharing their own personal fundraising pages that track how much they've raised, the name of those who have donated, and personal messages of support and encouragement.

All of the money that these supporters raise funnels back to your main campaign page goal.

You'll raise money, tap into your supporters' contacts, introduce new people to your organization's mission, and ENERGIZE your donor base by turning your base into champions of your organization's great work!

Helping Ambassadors Fundraise

Although providing a great template that your Ambassadors can use for guidance is important, it is also worthwhile to encourage them to personalize the template and their messages. People are likely to contribute first because of the person asking and secondly because it’s a great cause.

Personal Connection

Ambassadors should always add a brief note about how the cause has affected them personally. This accomplishes three goals:
  1. Legitimizes the message for the reader
  2. Creates empathy for beneficiaries
  3. Makes the reader want to help their friend who cares tangibly about the cause.
Consider the following two examples:
  1. Hi Friends- I am fundraising for Super Org, an organization dedicated to supporting clean water for rural communities in Kenya….
  2. Hi Friends- Most of you know that I have a deep personal connection to Kenya since I spent a summer there in high school. I decided to do something to help the wonderful but devastatingly impoverished people there by fundraising for Super Org…
The second opening is obviously more powerful. The speaker has shown a genuine connection to the cause and has created a sense of emotional connection for the reader.

When to Rely on the Template

Using a template for fundraising email blasts is good for general appeals to many people. However, the best way to reach-out to friends and family is to send individual emails and then the general appeal afterwards. This helps let family and friends know that the template isn’t really meant for them but also reinforces their push to contribute. (See following example).

Example:

Friends,

Most of you know that I have a deep personal connection to Kenya since I spent a summer there in high school. I decided to do something to help the wonderful but impoverished people there by fundraising for Super Org…

I know it's hard to do, but can you imagine what it would be like if you didn’t have clean water to drink? Think of how your world would change if you couldn’t access clean water 24/7. Sadly, many families across Kenya lack access to clean drinking water.

I have committed to helping fundraise $5,000 for Super Org, an organization working tirelessly to provide clean water to those who need it most. $5,000 is enough to fund maintenance and operation of a well serving 500 families for 2 whole years.

Please join me in helping support a clean drinking water for Kenyans by making a contribution here:

Your friendship and support mean a lot to me,

Rebecca

Invitation Template

Use this email template to invite friends of your organization to take a fundraising goal and be an ambassador:

Subject: [CONFIDENTIAL] Be an Ambassador for {{ORGANIZATION}}

Dear XX,

I hope that you are doing well. {{Insert appropriate life details}}

I am writing about a special opportunity to be part of a select group of individuals who help ensure that {{Organization's}} program to <<cause>> can raise $xxxxxxx and {{impact of funds raised}}.

Here’s how:

On DATE, {{ORGANIZATION}} will launch a crowdfunding campaign hosted by CauseMatch. Our campaign goal is to raise ${{AMOUNT}}. We must raise this amount in order to {{cause description}}. Thanks to a generous group of matching donors, every dollar donated is worth {{multiplier}} times as much!

As somebody who I know is particularly passionate about {{ORGANIZATION}} and our efforts to {{cause description}}, you are invited to play a very special role in this campaign.

We are gathering a group of 10 “Ambassadors” who will join us in promoting our campaign. By sharing the campaign via email and social media, you can help ensure our campaign’s success by dramatically increasing the reach of our social network.

Helping make sure we reach the goal is simple. You can:

  • Send emails to your friends and family encouraging them to contribute.
Here is a link to a sample email that we have prepared. See sample email below (Attach sample)

  • Make phone calls to friends and family encouraging them to contribute
  • Share the campaign on social media

If you are interested please don’t hesitate to reach out to me {{personal information}}.
