Guide for Team Leaders

Team Leaders

  1. What is a Team Leader?
The Team Leader is a vital part of the success of the campaign. Each team’s success creates the success of the campaign. You are responsible for making sure that Individual Fundraisers are on task, that your Campaign HQ is operating effectively, that people are on-task and pushing to hit their goal. You are the spine of the campaign and critical its success.
  2. What Are My Responsibilities?
It is your job to lead your group of Individual Fundraisers. You need to give them strategies, accountability and encouragement to help them succeed. Key tasks include:
    1. Emotional Encouragement: make sure people understand they are doing a mitzvah and helping an incredible mission.
    2. Staying On Track: Check in with your Individual Fundraisers THREE times before the campaign and then THREE times during the campaign to make sure things are on track.
    3. Problem-Solving: Help Individual Fundraisers identify issues and solve them. Doing these three things will help ensure that all your team members are on track to hitting their goal. And together, we will reach the fundraising goal and exceed it!

Best Practices

  1. Check-ins! Keep People On Track And Accountable
The American Society of Training and Development found that people are
95% more likely to achieve their goals if they have “accountability appointments” with a person they have committed to. Check-in with each of your assigned Individual Fundraisers at least THREE times before the campaign and THREE times during the campaign. This provides you a real-time indication as to whether your Fundraisers are on track to hitting their targets or if they need encouragement.
  2. Fundraising is About Giving, Not Taking
Remind people that they are helping achieve something incredible. They are NOT taking advantage of personal relationships. This is an AMAZING CAUSE. Each donation they secure will help accomplish x, y, z and it is a privilege
to give to your cause and make a better world.

What Am I Supposed to Do?

  1. Step 1: Create Fundraising Commitments
Make sure that 100% of your Individual Fundraisers have signed a written commitment letter pledging an amount they will fundraise.
  2. Step 2: List Donor Prospects
As soon as your Individual Fundraisers have signed up to raise a certain amount, follow-up with them and ensure they have listed all the names they can for potential donors. They should list a minimum of 50 names. They should use their phone’s contact database, CauseMatch's customizable Memory Jogger template, and do a personal brainstorm to create their prospects list.
  3. Step 3: Start Fundraising!
Make that people know they should begin fundraising right after they have signed-up and created their first list of potential donors. Ensure that they have everything they need to start collecting gifts both online and in-person (e.g. credit card authorization forms, envelopes for cash/checks etc.).
  4. Step 4: Accountability Periodic Check-ins
In the days leading-up to the campaign, check-in with your Individual Fundraisers three times to ensure that they are on track. You need to ask them (1) how much they have raised; (2) how many donors they have secured; (3) how many people they have contacted. It is important to note that Individual Fundraisers need to actually COLLECT gifts that they were pledged in order to ensure the funds actually make it to your nonprofit. Use the CauseMatch Check-in Chart to track progress.
  5. Step 5: Appreciation + KEEP GOING
Once somebody reaches their goal, they deserve a big mazel tov. It means they have invested their heart and soul and that needs to be acknowledged and appreciated. Even though they have reached their personal goal, the campaign still needs all the help it can get. Encourage the Individual Fundraiser to increase their personal goal. The campaign is built on Individual Fundraisers pushing the campaign hard, and so if each person adds to their original goal once they hit it, there will be a huge impact for the campaign.
