PayFast is a leading online payment processing solution for individuals, NPOs & businesses of all sizes in South Africa.
They're dedicated to enabling the easy, secure, & instant transfer of money to online merchants to help them grow, develop & succeed in the digital economy.
Note: Payfast is a completely separate entity to CauseMatch and the agreement is directly between the Org/Nonprofit and Payfast. Please reach out to Payfast support for any account-related queries. 


Payfast Account Set up

To create a new Payfast Account, please sign-up here
Only when the Profile setup is 100% complete, CauseMatch team can help the account to be linked with the page.

Payfast Verification Process


For an account to be completely ready to process donations, the verification on Payfast needs to complete 100%.

Following NPO documents might be required for Payfast verification:
  1. NPO registration certificate or Section 21 Company / NPC / PBO registration confirmation by SARS / Trust registration documentation (IT number) / the Trust Agreement / Deed of Trust
  2. Physical address matching the documents submitted
  3. Bank details located in the same country, matching the document submitted

Info needed for the page

To connect your Payfast successfully to your campaign page, please share the following with us, as soon as the account is 100% ready:
  • Merchant ID

  • Merchant Key 

  • Passphrase

Important: Once the account is linked with the campaign page, it is recommended to do a test donate by yourself on all payment modes enabled, to ensure all is working fine. You will require to cross-check the amounts being reflected on your Payfast account & we will need your verification success note in writing.

Payment Methods


One can enable any payment modes on Payfast, such as Internet banking, CC, Debit card, bitcoin, Zapper scan, etc. But it is recommended to stick with CC & Instant EFT as they are seen as the most successful payment modes so far, the rest is up to their preference.

Note: Please acknowledge the fact that CauseMatch cannot help test-donate anything other than CC transactions. Hence recommended to test-donate to all other payment modes that you may prefer to enable.


Subscription

Please be informed, that only a single value can be set as default on our checkout if you want to enable subscriptions. (Eg: 12 or 24 months)
Also, you need to ensure recurring is enabled on your account as well, to accept subscription donations.

ImportantRegardless of the default month value on our checkout, Payfast will charge the donor indefinitely. Hence you must take care of canceling such subscriptions individually from your Payfast account, soon after the specified month.


Transaction Limit

Via Payfast there exists a default Transaction Limit up to 10,000 ZAR. This can be extended by submitting a request to Payfast, & is recommended to check with them initially itself.

Fee

Payfast charges a fee that is applicable on each donation going through it. This is in ADDITION and completely separate from the CauseMatch fee.

Receipts

For Payfast donations, only Thank you receipts(non-tax receipts) will only be provided from CauseMatch just like Offline ones. 
However, you can check & ensure about the additional Payfast tax receipts provided from your Payfast account.


Donation Edits

Any donation edit request for deleting /refund of a donation must require you to take care of it via Payfast account from your end.

Only donation edits/assistance we can help with includes the following:
  1. Editing the amount / Deleting any donation only on page
  2. Editing Donor details on page(Eg: amount, name, multiplier, email, comments, marking anonymous & vice versa etc)
  3. Adding offline donation
  4. Resending Thank you (non-tax) receipts for the donors on any request

Payouts

Please do make sure to arrange for the Payout of all donation amounts from your Payfast account to your bank account. This is also to be done from your end & for any follow-up on such, please reach out to the Payfast Support team.
